The working holiday: You will be helping to restore a historic house in Mua Gua village, located to the south east of the city of PingYao, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The village itself is typical of a settlement from the Yuan Dynasty (around 800 years ago).
You will be part of an international team, helping to restore and preserve a traditional house. Tasks will include carpentry, attending to broken tiles and paving as well as some site clearance work. You will have the opportunity to learn traditional skills from the local craftsmen. Participants must have a good level of fitness and in the age range 18-50 years.
There will be the opportunity to explore the fascinating ancient city of PingYao, which is famous for its economic importance and architecture from the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Other activities will include hiking in the local mountains and visiting local crafts people.
Nearest transport hub: Ping Yao Chen train station, which is a one-hour journey from Taiyuan. You will be met here on the first day of the holiday.
Accommodation: In a hostel in PingYao ancient city, staying in shared rooms of 2-4 people.

These working holidays are organised in conjunction with Ruan Yisan Heritage Foundation (RYHF), a non-governmental, not for profit organisation created in 2006 to support and promote urban heritage conservation in China. This is the ninth year that RYHF have organised working holidays which successfully bring together Chinese and international participants.
