INTO AMICUS eNews

April 30  2014

Dear INTO AMICUS member.   We have so much to tell you and so little space and time to do so.  The National Trust world is a very busy and very exciting one.  Collectively it could be argued it is the largest conservation movement in the world.   With this newsletter we have tried to provide a digest of what is happening.   Please do follow the links for more details.   Be inspired!

As an AMICUS member you provide us vital support (as well as encouragement).  We love having you as our special AMICUS members.   This eNews is a special version for you.  We hope you enjoy reading.

So many members have contributed to these stories, it is hard to pick out anyone in particular, but we do want to express a huge thank you to our new volunteer, Pedro Tasende of aporta comunicacion, who has now established the Spanish language Twitter feed for us.  INTO is Global and we are committed to spreading our word as far and wide as possible.

Thanks to all of you for what you do.

 Sincerely,   The INTO team.

Special invitation to AMICUS members to join us on the English Way to Santiago de Compostela, September 15 - 19

Three members of the INTO Executive Committee and Secretariat (Bill, Oliver and Roger) are turning 70 years old in 2014.  Oliver Maurice has developed a plan in partnership with our Galician member for these three, their friends, spouses, and EC members to walk approximately 130 kms (the English Way) from Ferrol to Santiago de Compostela in Galicia September 15th through the 19th.   The walkers will use this walk as a fundraising opportunity in support of INTO programs.    Following the walk the INTO Executive Committee will hold its annual face to face meeting and a public seminar.   INTO AMICUA members are most warmly invited to join us on this walk.   This will be an amazing experience.  Nightly accommodation will be arranged at local hotels enroute.    Costs are reasonable.   It is possible to join the walk for shorter distances if necessary.    For more information email: secretariat@intoorg.org

Small Grant awarded to Taiwan Environmental Information Association

In March, we made an SGP of award of US$2,000.00 to the Taiwan Environmental Information Association (TEIA) to support a reprint of their environmental trust booklet.  To quote from their application.

"The "Environmental Trust Booklet" is an important resource to promote environmental trust in Taiwan, 5 years after it was first published, the first edition is out of stock and the content can be updated.  INTO SGP will support us to publish a second edition financially.  Introducing the idea of environmental trust to the public has been a slow procedure, we will be very happy if we see a second environmental trust settlement and the approval of the 'pink dolphin trust', the number of people reached by the outputs of this project can be used to determine how the project affects the public."

.The project will also provide a significant amount of information to be added to the INTO website, and posted on social media.

National Trust Farms

National Trusts own and manage rural farming properties across the globe.  One of the things we heard loud and clear in Entebbe was that our membership wanted to recognize the importance of agricultural lands.  The INTO Executive at its last meeting received an exciting proposal to establish a program relating to these farm properties.   We are now working on the design of this program and hope to launch a new section of the INTO website in early Summer.   Watch the next eNews for more details
